Begin each day with a grateful heart.
In yoga philosophy, the body has many energy centers, or wheels, called chakras. One of the important ones is the heart chakra, or anahata chakra. The heart center is the middle chakra in a system of seven. The heart connects the physical world and the spiritual world. The corresponding element is Air. Air represents freedom and expansion. It is related to love and is the integrator of opposites in the psyche: mind and body, male and female, ego and unity. A healthy fourth chakra allows us to love deeply, feel compassion, and have a deep sense of peace and centeredness. The opening of the chest symbolizes opening the heart, growing in compassion and connection to others. The benefits of yoga chest openers are both physical and psychological. By lifting your heart, moving your shoulders back and lengthening the front of your body, you decrease back pain and shoulder tightness, and improve your spirits. Send some love out into the world this upcoming week.
